How do you say NO to someone who asks for your assignment
So, on occasion I've been asked to "submit" my lab report to someone because I was scheduled to do it earlier. I could politely decline and say "No", but me being me...I can't do that. So, what I do...is created a second document, but copy 20% of my actual work
What they don't know, can't hurt them.
Anyway, so let's talk about this issue. What do you do? What is your excuse, or do you blindly hand it over because you have trust in the person?

I just say no politely and move on. If that person is a friend, they would understand.

I just tell them I havent completed it yet, when it is actually completed. Or just charge them. I remember I charged a friend 5 bucks for a page to copy and he agreed.

Could this person ever help you with anything? If so, helping them in their time of need may not be such a bad thing. If nothing else, at least it's good karma.

if the person copied your la report and both of you guys get caught..
whoo.
thats not good dude. immediate 0 in the course and "sanctioned for academic misconduct" appears on your transcript for at least 2 years.
if its your close friend just either say I havent done it yet or politely say no, I cant risk my academic honesty.
if its a person you barely know, if just tell him to f**k off....

just never say no.
Why does people make such a big deal out of sharing assignments? the people that never did the assignments will eventually gets dinged on the exam.
So why is it so hard to help a fellow classmate out, who potentially could become one of your colleague in your niche specialized field of engineering?
Marks isn't everything buddy.

It depends... If they're just going to copy, don't do it. If they're smarter than that, so basically take yours as a bit of a check or to get on the right track (something I do because I swear to god profs could not be more vague), then let 'em. Just make it clear that you under no circumstances want them to copy all the answers.

^ Good point. If the person in question isn't copything then it might not be a problem. In any case, if you don't want someone to have your assignment then you can easily say "no". A friend of mine asked someone if they could have their assignment and were told they could not and it wasn't a big deal.

I could easily hand over a coding assignment to someone, all they will do is change around the variable names but use the same structure. But my Prof said he checks structure, hand by hand (well the TAs). So for me, I'm not going to risk it. I think at my school, we get a mark on our transcript if we're caught.

When they ask, rip your paper up and say, you'll never get it now and laugh. Do that with a fake paper so they back off, then hand in the real copy later.
Well you can say someone else needs it or your studying it. A very hard thing to turn down someone.

i'd just say "No way... the last time a guy said 'i'll just change the words around a bit' the prof found out and i almost got suspended. No wayim losing a few g's worth of tuition for that. Sorry bud"
if he replies 'your a loser man!!! I thought u were my friend!"
"I thought you were my friend. You want me to risk failing a course, getting in **** by my parents, and losing out a few g's while im on academic probation b/c your too lazy to do it yourself?"
Most 'friends' can handle the bluntness and understand. IF they dont... they arent really your friends =)

mark isn't everything but money is something...if the prof catch it = plagerism = 0 marks on assignments = might result fail = need to pay ro retake it..
back to OP...just tell them you don't have it with you..if they ask you online...tell them u don't have a copy on your computer and you left your usb/hard drive somewhere else...if you use the same excuse few times and your friend still asks you for it....get the message that you need to make better friends!

at this day and age, marks are very important, especially when it comes to admissions for graduate studies. with that said, in order for you to be better than someone, that someone has to be worse.
another thing that comes to mind is that there are requirements for courses, like only 25% of the people can get As and the average must be a C+ (for example), or the final grades will be adjusted to fit the expectation.
If you give your work to someone who ends up getting at A, which that puts the final results outside of the course's requirements, your own grade will suffer if/when the grades are adjusted.
i guess what it really comes down to is who the person is. is it a a friend, or just some classmate. Personally, I've taken time to help friends with school work, and told classmates who I have never spoken to before that I don't share work.
